Just downloaded Ghost 1.0 yesterday evening, when my first death booted me right back to the start of the tutorial cutscene. Seems this is a known bug for the current (v1.1.8b) release, see: _10/game_doesnt_create_savegame

Apparently the game fails to create a \save\ folder during installation, so when it tries to save it defaults instead to a path under your user folder, \AppData\Roaming, and creates an \unepic\save\ folder there. It can't read from there however, so when it tries to load the game it won't find a save (which is why you'll be restarted to the very beginning of the game).

What you need to do is play until you get to the first 3D printer save point, then alt-tab out of your game. Go find the \Appdata\Roaming\unepic\ folder it just created and CUT the \save\ folder out from there. Then go to where your game is installed e.g. C:\Games\Ghost 1.0\ and PASTE the \save\ folder there. That's it. Now when you die or continue the game should load successfully.

WEAPONS: Weapons reload on the go and they never run out of bullets. No need to hoard ammo for the boss battle! The various weapons can be found or purchased (depending on the game mode) and each one has its strengths and weaknesses.

GHOST: The protagonist is not the android you see, but the being that remotely controls it: a mysterious digital ghost that can leave its robot chassis, pass through doors and walls, control enemy androids, and use their own tools against them. What happens if the robot you control gets destroyed, you ask? Then your ghost will be free to control something else, or return to your main body.

GEEKIES: Spread throughout the game are hidden "geekies". If you find one and activate it, something related to that geekie will change in the game (not affecting gameplay)... and the challenge is to find out what changes.

GAME MODES: Ghost has 2 game modes: "classic" and "survival". Classic is similar to a metroidvania, where the more you advance through the game, the more stuff you obtain and the harder the enemies become. Survival is crazier, as you get stuff much faster and you'll soon turn into a killing machine, but you lose everything when you die.

SKILL TREE: The RPG component of the game is found in the skill tree, where you can spend skill points to level up characters, obtaining special skills for each one. Depending on what skills you select, your gameplay will change in an interesting way.

Mortis Ghost created an official web page for OFF at an unknown date (possibly around the same time the OFF translations were created). The website is entirely in French and has not yet been translated. The website itself contained info about the game. This also includes different images created by Mortis Ghost, OFF Downloads (in multiple languages), sketches, wallpapers, sheet music, a solution page (also in French) and a peculiar folder named "DossierSG", which is a lengthy review created by someone named "ShadowGate". It is twelve pages long and has yet to be translated. As of 2021, all downloadable content from that site can be found under the games section of the Unproductive Fun Time site.

The actual, down-to-brass-tacks-oh-no-I-pricked-myself-why-are-these-tacks-so-sharp gameplay of the thing is an initially fun loop that soon becomes a bit of a grind. No matter how the Nakamura has randomly aligned itself, the brunt of gameplay involves exploring Metroid-esque rooms and corridors, tripping motion sensors, and facing off against waves of enemies. Each triggered wave gets progressively harder, until Ghost falls in battle, at which point the difficulty resets. Exploration itself is actually quite a bit of fun, eventually opening up to some more interesting sides of what is, for a while, a fairly generic blue-and-silver facility. In addition to new weapons and power-ups, Ghost can, you guessed it, project her own ghostly form from her body to possess robots and perform shenanigans. Even with this in mind, though, the thing becomes a bit of a pain after a while, even after different areas open up. By the second hour, Ghost 1.0 feels like a functionally enjoyable loop, albeit one that changes itself up every couple subsequent hours. The enemies themselves are actually quite well-designed and well-thought out, and even include a few that gave me questions about the world at large (always a huge plus in good character design). Combat is quite fun; it just sucks that every few rooms, players have to stall the sense of progression by tripping a sensor and getting stuck in a room with about 20 droid gunmen and spinning sawblades. 041b061a72
